Reagan's Cleft Palate Repair

Reagan was given the medical clearance on his final follow up appointment with his surgeon who repaired his lip in June and his palate in November. Basically what that means is that he is allowed to do whatever his sisters were doing in terms of meals. The truth of the matter is he was already doing the same thing. They have all been eager little eaters and have been on finger foods for weeks. The outcome for Reagan has been a success. Reagan's cleft lip and cleft palate are as perfect as can be. His surgeon even asked the others in the room if they could they tell which triplet had the cleft? That's how pleased she was. And so are we. Leading up to this has been a process and anyone with a child born with a cleft lip or palate or both as he was, will understand. There is an emotional component to it. Early Interventions

Today (now yesterday) was Reagan's annual review with Early Interventions . I really didn't know much about Early Interventions when I got that call shortly after the triplets were born. I almost declined, but am so glad that I decided to meet with the coordinator who first gathered information and then set up a time in our home to test for services. When Reagan was born with a cleft lip and palate a referral was made on his behalf. He was also born with Torticollis , basically his head tilts to the right. A group of therapists have been coming into our home over the last year. They originally all came together for the initial evaluation and determined after testing that he qualified for speech (for the cleft) occupational therapy (for fine motor skills) and physical therapy (for his low muscle tone.) Happy Birthday to Our Tatay.

Today is Alex's Birthday. He is off tonight and tomorrow night and we look forward to spending this time together as a family. He has been an amazing father to his triplets and step-father to Jordan and we are lucky to have a good hardworking man in our lives. I hope the triplets have his dedication in life to always work hard to achieve and make their dreams come true just as he has done so well in his life. Susannah playing Happy Birthday for her Tatay.
