Diaper rash gone wild.

Reagan saw a dermatologist yesterday. He called it a generalized eczema.  He has had a lot of redness
on his bottom for several weeks that we have attempted to treat at home and apparently it set off an id reaction (immune response) in his body and now explains the redness on his cheeks, under his eyes, eye lids,  and tummy that everyone was stumped over, including two pediatrician visits and seen by different doctors.  It started off with just a little redness on his left side of his face and then slowly just started blossoming everywhere else all originating from his diaper area that just persisted and they call it fungal when it's a bright red, like a burn appearance).  Something caused the irritation, maybe the new soap I used, maybe the Kiwi.  And because it persisted it moved on to another area of his body and eventually started popping out everywhere and eventually became infected.

After getting a prescription for desodine a corticosteroid ointment and a antifungal ointment for his bottom and being told he also needed an antibiotic for the infection we headed on over to see the pediatrician. He had developed a fever that started the day before.  Good thing that we were able to get an appointment. Turns out that his lymph nodes were swollen (most likely because of the infection on his face and inside his body) and his left ear was infected and crusty and filled with fluid, or at least the doctor wasn't able to get a good look because there was so much "gunk" and she couldn't decipher if it was wax. We were told by the audiologist this week that when they took a look inside his ears that we needed to either follow up with Reagan's pediatrician or his ENT as they thought that when he failed the OAE part of the exam that fluid or wax could be affecting the inner ear and blocking the sounds and that they would prefer if we returned on another day when he was free of all his cold symptoms.  Reagan was switched from Amoxicillin ( that I started the night before) and put on Augmentin that would address all these issues  (skin, eye and ear infection) and antibiotic ear drops.

The goal is to get this all cleared up. He said to give it 10 days before it's all gone. Now to follow up with ENT and a follow up visit with the pediatrician in 10 days to exam his lymph nodes.

By the way Kathleen has an ear infection too. Her first one. I guess this makes it their first one for both of them. Susannah has been lucky so far.

Oh and today he is going to see a GI specialist. Too many P**pY diapers. Poor kiddo. He's been a trooper though. All of this has barely stopped him.
